I grew up in Fallston, MD about 25 minutes outside of Baltimore. I played youth sports growing up; Little League Baseball, Soccer, Basketball, Football, and Ice Hockey, before playing Football, Ice Hockey, and Lacrosse at Fallston High School. While in High School, I did an independent study program my senior year on Athletic Training and designed and created their Athletic Training Facility that is still in use to this day. This event is what set me on my career path.
I went on to attend West Chester University of PA where I studied Athletic Training. I played on the men's lacrosse team, for 3 years at the NCAA Division 3 level. My team even won the first ever ECAC Championship game in 1994. During my time at WCU I performed clinical rotations with the National Athletic Trainers Association and assisted the Athletic Training staff of the Philadelphia Wings professional lacrosse team during the 1993 season and 1994 league championship season.
In the fall of 1994 I attended graduate school at Georgia State University in Atlanta. During my time there I was able to work as a research assistant in the GSU Sports Medicine Laboratory and as a Graduate Assistant for Georgia Sports Medicine/Nova Care organization. My duties with GSM/NC included helping with local high school athletic game coverage and assisting in the rehabilitation of athletes from the Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Knights, and WCW Wrestling. I also was able to provide athletic training coverage for several 1996 Pre-Olympic and Centennial Olympic Games; such as Judo, Fencing, Team Handball, Rhythmic Gymnastics and Weight-Lifting.
After my Olympic experience, I secured a job, for three years, as a teacher and Head Athletic Trainer at Walton High School in Marietta, GA. While there I achieved All-Star Athletic Trainer Status from the Georgia Athletic Trainers' Association in 1998, and was appointed the Head Athletic Trainer for the North GA football team at the Annual High School Football All-Star Game held at the University of Georgia. Because of these accomplishments, I was moved to work for the Athens Sports Medicine/Nova Care organization in Athens GA. There I continued to provide athletic training coverage for local high schools and I also helped coach the UGA Men's Club SELC Championship Lacrosse Team.
Wanting to broaden my talents, in the spring of 2000 I moved to northern New Jersey to work for the Kessler Rehabilitation Centers in a Sports Medicine Physical Therapy setting. My duties included providing athletic training and strength and conditioning services for the high school football program at Don Bosco Prep. I personally got to help facilitate the growth of team captain Ryan Grant. Ryan not only accelerated as a running back on the high school level, but also went on to play at the University of Notre Dame and then to the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League. He even became a Super Bowl Champion in 2011. I still take great pride in the fact that I was able to help the physical and mental growth of a young man in high school and see him become an accomplished professional athlete.
In 2002 I was asked to become a Graduate Assistant at East Stroudsburg University and then the Interim Associate Athletic Trainer. While at ESU I worked on a daily bases with the ESU Football Team which won a share of the 2003 PSAC Conference title for the first time in over a decade. My professional success continued in 2014, when I took a position at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine as a Strength & Conditioning Specialist. I not only provided athletic and conditioning services to the student body, but also assisted the facility manager with daily operational needs for the National Basketball Association’s Philadelphia 76ers organization; who utilized the athletic facility as their practice site for over 15 years.
